A Goal Without a Plan is Simply a Dream
A Goal Without a Plan is Merely a Dream.
The difference between a goal and a dream is planning.
The first step is to determine what the goal is. For example, it is not simply a question of losing weight. Consider how much weight, and what methods you plan to you. Similarly, it is not simply a question of adding muscle, but how much muscle and for what purpose.
What can you reliably do to reach this goal? What are the obvious obstacles? How will those obstacles be addressed? (You do not have to like the answers. In fact, you almost certainly will not. But, you need to ask the questions.)
Even without making obviously bad choices, life may obligate people to take short cuts with diet (relying on convenient, high-calorie, food) or exercise (skipping workouts, or trips to the gym).
For some people, the first, possibly only, goal for this year is undoing the damage from previous bad choices.
Ultimately, it is a question of priorities. Do you want to be healthier later? If so, start a new routine now, when it is easy to be enthusiastic enough to build the habit and do the work.
Everybody reading this is invited (challenged) to pick and work towards at least one health goal. Pick a metric (pounds lost, muscle gained, steps taken, whatever), and have a plan for how to reach it.
Good luck, and thanks for reading.
